Champ C. Woodson 57, passed away at 3:41 am Wednesday September, 4, 2013 at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Alton.
He was born on December 31, 1955 in Alton, IL son of the late Ralph Woodson and Verna Mae (Staten) Woodson who lives in Jerseyville.
Champ grew up working at his families business at Staten Funeral Home in Alton. He was a graduate of Alton High School. He then helped his wife with Jane’s Garden Spot in Alton and was the owner and operator of Champ Bar on the circle in Alton for many years. He was a member of the Alton Knights of Columbus Council # 460. He enjoyed boating, landscaping and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
He married Jane (Rynders) Woodson in Alton on February, 25, 1984. She survives.
In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by three children, Chris and his wife Sarah Woodson of New Port Beach, CA, Heather Springman of Troy, MO and Ryan Woodson of Alton; three grandchildren, Tyler Springman, Ashton Springman & Sophie Woodson of Alton; and several cousins and good friends.
He is preceded in death by his father and maternal grandparents, Ben and Catherine Staten.
Visitation will be 2 to 5 pm on Sunday, September 8, 2013 at Staten-Fine Funeral Home in Alton.
Private graveside services will be on Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at St. Joseph Cemetery in Alton.
Memorials may be made to Hope Rescue and K9 fund for the Alton Police Department.
