GREG GIBBONSDELHI-  John Gregory Gibbons, 86, died suddenly at 4:08 p.m., WednesdayAugust 21, 2013 in the emergency room at Jersey Community HospitalHe was born in Delhi on the family "Centennial Farm" on Aug. 29, 1926 one of four children born to John Flaherty and Mary Margaret (Curran) Gibbons.Growing up on the farm, Greg learned early on the value of hard work, family values and a deep faith.  Living the Catholic faith was something that he and his wife, Pat, held strong and were active members of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church.  Greg was also active in the farming community serving on numerous boards, including serving as President of the Tri Couty FS Board for 19 years, the MJM Board of Directors, and served on the board of Growmark in Bloomington for eight years, along with the Jersey County Fair Board.He married the former Patricia Ann Gorman  on Aug. 20, 1949 in Alton, and their marriage was blessed with seven children and their house became a busy place.  Greg & Pat enjoyed their family and their farm together for nearly 48 years before her death on May 3, 1997.Surviving are his seven children & their spouses,  John G. Gibbons of Pana, Terrance & Suzy Gibbons of Flower Mound, Tx., Margaret Reynolds of Colorado Springs, Co., Patricia & Carl Cooper of Lakewood Ranch, Fl., Nancy & David Kuske of Naperville, Timothy Gibbons of Brighton, and Mary Kay & Kevin Barry of San Diego, Ca.; 18 Grandchildren; one great grandson; and a host of caregivers who lovingly provided Greg with many wonderful years of being able to enjoy his home, family, and his life.In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, James R. Gibbons; and two sisters, Mary Catherine Gibbons and Margaret Josephine Zach.Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10 a.m. Monday at the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Jerseyville, with Father Patrick Gibbons officiating.Burial will be in the St. Francis Xavier Cemetery in Jerseyville.Memorials may be given to the St. Francis/Holy Ghost Catholic Schools in Jerseyville or to the American Cancer Society
