Melvin L. Townsend, 69 passed away at 1:03 am Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at Alton Memorial Hospital in Alton.
He was born on April 9, 1944 in Alton, IL the son of Alfred & Gladys (Connoyer) Townsend.
Melvin married Lin Renee (Hayes) on July 1, 1977 in Clayton, MO and she preceded him in death on February 22, 2011
He worked in construction with Local 660 and enjoyed nature. He loved fishing and walking in the woods and during his younger days he enjoyed hunting.
He is survived by a daughter; Elizabeth Townsend and her boyfriend Matt Boggs of East Alton, IL; a son, Adam Townsend of West Alton; one grandson, Caleb Maxwell; three brothers, Virgil, Eddie and Leonard Townsend; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Gail Vaughn, Geraldine & Leon Foeller and Betty & Frank Coffman.
In addition to his parents and wife he was also preceded in death by two brothers, Richard and
Gene Townsend and a sister, Gloria Bodalato.
Visitation will be from 9 am until time of funeral services at 11 am Friday August 16, 2013 at Staten-Fine Funeral Home in Alton with Fr. James Flach officiating.
Burial will follow at Immaculate Conception Cemetery in West Alton, MO.
Memorials may be made to: Holy Angels Catholic Church in Wood River.
