Clara L.Winfree, 72, passed away unexpectedly at 9:36 am on Tuesday, August 6, 2013 at Alton Memorial Hospital.

She was born on July 6, 1941 in Point Lick, WV, the daughter of Elsie A. and Louise P. (Greco) Honaker. 

She married David A. Winfree on July 2, 1960 in Alton, IL.  He survives. 

Clara was a bookkeeper for Interiors Plus for 17 years.  She was a member of the Meadowbrook 1st Assembly of God Church, where she served as a Sunday School teacher, youth leader, bus driver and worked in the outreach ministry including in area nursing homes and Beverly Farms.  She was a foster mom to fourteen children. She enjoyed coin collecting, puzzles and crossword puzzles, most of all she loved playing with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband of 53 years, she is survived by a daughter, Reta Ehlers of Bethalto; three sons and daughters-in-law, James and Candy Winfree of Meadowbrook, David and Tara Winfree of South Roxana and Chris and Lila Winfree of New Douglas, IL; seventeen grandchildren, Jessica Rea of Brighton, Angela Jackson of East Alton, Brett Jackson of Bethalto, Holli Bowers of Caseyville, Lori Winfree of Meadowbrook, Melani Winfree of Meadowbrook, Joshua Winfree of Meadowbrook, Kiley Winfree of South Roxana, Daniel Winfree of New Douglas, Andrew Winfree of New Douglas, Christopher Winfree of Bunker Hill, David  Winfree of Bunker Hill, Jason Ehlers, Kevin Ehlers, Julie Fetsch, Lauren Kosyder and Zachary Perez; twelve great grandchildren; three sisters, Oliveine Maples of Sanford, FL, Gertrude Carte of Mt Airy, NC and Edna Shawver of Buffalo, WV; five brothers, Edward Honaker of Alton, Paul Honaker of Godfrey, Carl Honaker of Neptune Beach, FL, Dallas Honaker of Mt. Sterling, OH and Frank Honaker of Poca, WV and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a son-in-law, Tommy Ehlers and five brothers, Howard Honaker, Clyde Honaker, Gilbert Honaker, Clifford Honaker and David Honaker.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm Friday, August 9, 2013 at the Meadowbrook 1st Assembly of God Church. 

Funeral services will be at the church at 10 am on Saturday, August 10, 2013 with Rev. Alta Vaughn officiating. 

Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto. 

Memorials may be made to Meadowbrook 1st Assembly of God Church or John Wayne Cancer Fund.
