Bernardine Huebener

Bernardine (Goetten) Huebener, 93 years, a devoted wife, loving mother and doting grandmother and great grandmother, passed away early Tuesday morning, August 6, 2013 with her loving family by her side in her Brighton home. Born December 1, 1919 in Jerseyville, she was the daughter of Anthony & Elizabeth (Biermann) Goetten. Bernardine married Martin F. Huebener on May 4, 1946 at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Jerseyville. She was preceded in death by her husband Martin, their daughter Mary Margaret and her sister Genevieve Goetten.  Bernardine was a lifelong caretaker of her family, raising eight children and contributing to the success of their multi-generational family farm. She offered her time, talent and treasures to various civic and community organizations, serving in multiple roles as a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church & St. Theresa’s Altar Society in Brighton. Bernardine was also very involved with the Brighton Betsey Ann Association, of which her late husband, Martin, was a supporting member for over 50 years.Survivors include her children Martin A. and wife Linda of Atlanta, GA; John D. and wife Judy of Ft. Worth, TX; Daniel J. and wife Becky of Brighton, IL; Ruth A. Brouster and husband Tom of St. Louis, MO; Charles E. and wife Felecia of Brighton, IL, William F. and wife Gayle of Brighton, IL; and Paul F. and wife Rosanne of Naperville, IL.Her fourteen grandchildren and their spouses include Julia (Andy) Lokken of Eau Claire, WI; Gretchen (Phillip) Mings of Atlanta, GA; John Martin (Melissa) Huebener of San Antonio, TX; Matt Huebener of Bethalto, IL; Justin Huebener of New York, NY; Megan (Scott) Meyer of Washington, MO; Meredith Brouster of St. Louis, MO; Emily Huebener of Chicago, IL; Benjamin Huebener of Cincinnati, OH; Mary Kate & Joseph Huebener of Brighton, IL; and Ellen, Catherine & Michael Huebener of Naperville, IL.Bernardine’s six great-grandchildren include Lydia & Lucas Lokken of Eau Claire, WI; Molly & William Mings of Atlanta, GA; and Allison & Grant Huebener of San Antonio, TX. She is also survived by her brother Cyril Goetten of Jerseyville.  Visitation will be at 4-8 pm on Thursday Aug 8, 2013 at Targhetta & Wooldridge Funeral Home in Brighton with a prayer service at 4:00 pm by Fr Bill Kessler
Funeral Mass will be held at 10 am on Friday August 9, 2013 at St Alphonsus Catholic Church in Brighton with Fr Bill Kessler officiating.Burial will follow at the Brighton CemeteryIn lieu of flowers, memorials may be made for Mass intentions or to St. Alphonsus Catholic Church of Brighton. Online information and guestbook may be found at targhettaandwooldridge.com
