Jason E. Mathews, age 40, passed away at 1:33 pm Tuesday, July 30, 2013 with his family by his side at Alton Memorial Hospital in Alton.
He was born on December 15, 1972 in Alton, IL to Rodney L. and Rebecca (Lawton) Mathews.
Jason was employed as a toxic waste remover for over 20 years; he enjoyed fishing, mushroom hunting, and being outdoors. He had a great love for dogs and showed it in his love for his trusted companion “Rufus”. He also enjoyed stock car racing, and raced at the Godfrey Speedway.
Jason is survived by his parents a brother; Rodney W. Mathews of Wood River, IL a sister; Tonya Mathews of Alton, IL and extended family; Jimmy and Justin Dean of East Alton, IL and his Maternal Grandparents; Eugene and Velma Lawton of Roodhouse.
He was preceded in death by his Paternal Grandparents; Riley and Ida (Mathews) Bryant.
Memorial Visitation will be from 5 pm till time of service at 7 pm, August 6, 2013 at the Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton, IL with the Rev. Daryl Dolbee officiating.
