Dale Wayne Hammond, 61, passed away at 7:55 a.m. Monday, June 24, 2013 at Rosewood Care Center in Alton.
Born May 22, 1952 in Wood River, he was a son of Cleo G. and Alberta (Downing) Hammond.
He married Jan Michelle Fletcher on Aug. 5, 1972 in East Alton. She survives.
Dale was Assistant Superintendent of Schools-Human Resources Department of the Hazelwood School District, retiring in 2006 after 32 years. He loved the Lord with all his heart, and was a member of Beltline Christian Center. He also was an accomplished trumpet player.
In addiditon to his wife, he is survived by his mother, Alberta Hammond of East Alton; 3 daughters and sons-in-law, Andrea and Jack Leonard of Godfrey, Amy and Larry Smith of Alton, and Kristin and Rev. Matthew Prince of Brighton; 4 grandchildren, Fletcher and Spencer Leonard and Faith and Maggie Smith; a sister and brother-in-law, Fonda and John Starbuck of Wood River; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Kevin and Myril Hammond of Rockmart, Ga. and Stanley and Christy Hammond of Rosewood Heights.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday, June 28 at Beltline Christian Center, where Reverend David Wagner will officiate services at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 29.
Burial will follow at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey.
Memorials may be made to the church.
