Charles McCarthy

Charles E. McCarthy, 83 passed away Friday, May 3, 2013 at Robings Manor in Brighton, IL.

He was born on August 16, 1929 in Hettick, IL, the son of the late Joseph Thomas & Emma Jane (Bilbruck) McCarthy.

Charles served his country in the U.S. Army as a corporal during the Korean Conflict.  He was owner/operator of McCarthy Plumbing & Heating in Bethalto for twenty years.  He was a member of the Hettick High School class of 1948 and the Cottage Hills VFW Post #7678, where he held several offices.

He is survived by four children and their spouses, Deborah Panapinto and Mike Brooks of Bunker Hill, Cathy & Robin Mahan of Alton, Theresa & David Taylor of East Alton and Stephen McCarthy of Wood River; seven grandchildren and their spouses, Dawn & Brian Herrin, Sarah & Brian Sitze, Joshua Taylor, Savanah Riggs, Samantha Taylor, Julieanna McCarthy and Colynn Mahan; eight great grandchildren; one sister and brother-in-law, Mary & Albert Schwab of Carlinville and three brothers and sisters-in-law, Joseph & Anna McCarthy of Bethalto, C. Thomas McCarthy of Jacksonville, IL and John & Jan McCarthy of Lakeland, FL and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm on Monday, May 6, 2013 at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 am on Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto with Fr. Tom Liebler officiating. 

Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.

Memorials may be given to Bethel Christian Academy Education Fund or Stars and Stripes Honor Flight.
