Robert Stephen Bailey, 99, of East Alton, IL, died at 8:00 p.m. Wed. Apr. 17, 2013 at his home surrounded by family.
He was born Sept. 14, 1913 in Alton, IL to the late Stephen & Eva (Roller) Bailey.
On Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 25, 1935, he and Genevieve Eileen Lawrence were married in Bethalto, IL. She preceded him in death on July 14, 2002.
Robert was a WWII U.S. Army veteran, serving with Patton’s 3rd Army at the Battle of the Bulge and received a Bronze Star. He retired from Laclede Steel as a welder/layout man after 43 years of service. He continued to work in construction until he was 97.
Survivors include: 2 sons, James Robert Bailey of Godfrey and David Lloyd Bailey of Alton, a brother-in-law, George Lawrence, 4 grandchildren, Brekk and his wife Tonya and their children Lauren & Amber, , Travis and his daughter, Janessa, Genevieve and Carson and his fiancé Molly.
Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at 11:00 a.m. Sat. Apr. 20, 2013 at Roselawn Memory Gardens with Rev. Mark Hofferber officiating.
