Elmer Lawrence "Sam" Driver, 79, died at 12:00 a.m., Thursday, April 11, 2013 at the Jerseyville Manor Nursing Home.
He was born in Otter Creek Township, Jersey County, Il. on Aug. 18, 1933 one of five children born to the late Lester & Stella (Schaaf) Driver.
Sam was a U.S. Army veteran, and was employed as a welder at Federal Steel in East Alton for over thirty years, and was a member of the Ironworkers Union
Surviving are a daughter & son in law, Kathy & Billy Perkins of Palmyra; a granddaughter, Caitlyn Rose Perkins; a brother, Robert Driver of Delhi; a sister, Nilda "Sis" Evans of Barnhart, Mo.; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his lifelong companion, Lola Miller in 1994; and two brothers, Charles "Shorty" Driver and Thomas Driver.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m., Tuesday until time of funeral services at 1 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.
Burial will be in the Fieldon Cemetery with military rites being conducted in honor of his service.
Memorials may be given to his family in care of the funeral home.
