Edgar Wells, 95, passed away peacefully at 3:55 am on Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at his home with his family by his side.
He was born on February 5, 1918 in Hornersville, MO, the son of Oscar and Rosie Mae (Adkins) Wells.
He married Jewell Pyle on November 21, 1936 in Portageville, MO. She preceded him in death on December 30, 1991.
Edgar served his country in the U.S. Army during WW II. He was a farmer all of his life until he came to this area in 1966. He then worked as the head custodian for the Alton School District. He was a member of the Wood River and Cottage Hills VFW. He was also an avid fisherman.
He is survived by a daughter-in-law, Jane Wells of Bethalto; three grandsons and their spouses, Boyd and Elizabeth Wells of O’Fallon, MO, Brad and Susan Wells of Wood River and Brent and Amy Wells of East Alton and three granddaughters and their spouses, Kelly and Steve Spangler of Bethalto, Traci and Bob Seely of Bethalto, and Janie and Anil Pillai of St. Louis, MO; ten great grandchildren, Jeremy, Jamie, Lucas, Zachary, Jacob, Emily Jewel, Christian, Luz, Tyler and Taylor; two great, great grandchildren, Logan and Connor and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Jewell, two sons and a daughter-in-law, James Wells, Bob and Sandra Wells, a grandson, Bryan Wells and his siblings, Everett Wells, Magaline Christian, Raymond Wells and Ola Mae Harris.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm Thursday, March 28, 2013 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto. Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Friday, March 29, 2013 at the funeral home with Father James Flach officiating.
Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto with military rites.
