Rex R. Harnetiaux, 77, died at 1:35 p.m. on Monday, June 11, 2012 at Saint Clare’s Hospital in Alton. He was born October 11, 1934 in Pinckneyville, IL the son of Vernon Harnetiaux and Lil Rule. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1953-1957. He retired from Laclede Steel after 32 years where he worked as a rigger. He was an avid golfer, and enjoyed bowling and fishing.
On January 3, 1959 in Alton, he married Janice Kern and she survives.
Also surviving are one daughter; Catherine Murphy and her husband Keith of Elkhorn, Kentucky, two sons; Michael Harnetiaux and his wife Roberta of Alton and Eric Harnetiaux and his wife Shari of Godfrey. Eight grandchildren; Brian Matheson, David Matheson, Amy Gann, Jay Brefeld, Kenny Lenhardt , Sarah Harnetiaux,Kimberlie Laubscher and Brian Laubscher, eight great-grandchildren, and two sisters and one brother.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother. A family memorial service will be July 1, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at his home.
