Joseph V. Benoit, 81, passed away at 3:30 pm Sunday April 29, 2012 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO.
He was born on January 25, 1931 in Alton, the son of Joseph P. & Mabel M. (Overmeyer) Benoit.
He served his country in the Army during the Panama Crisis and graduated from Shurtleff College in Alton and the Art Institute of Chicago.
He worked for the First National Bank of Chicago for more than 30 years in Human Resources
He is survived by several nieces and nephews, Bernard & JoEllen Fleming of Bellingham, WA, Patricia & Jay Fink of Alton, and Mary & John McManis of Alton; several great nieces and nephews, Katie Fleming, Bryan Fleming, Meghan Arnold, Sean Fleming, Ruth Fink, Andy Fink, Tim Fink and Molly McManis.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Fleming, a brother, Paul Benoit, and a nephew, Michael Fleming.
A memorial Mass will be at 10:00 am on Saturday, May 12, 2012 Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Alton with Fr. Jerry Wickenhauser and Deacon John Bretz celebrants.
Inurnment will be private at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Godfrey.
Memorials may be made to the Heart Transplant Association of St. Louis or to Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church.
