Larry Ray

Larry L. Ray, 74, of Bethalto passed away at 2:13 am Monday, February 8, 2016 at Alton Memorial Hospital.

He was born on November 26, 1941 in Vandalia, IL, the son of Edgar and Marjorie (Davis) Ray. 

Larry was a pipefitter at Shell Oil Company for over 30 years, until his retirement in 1999.  He was a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Bethalto.  He helped call bingo for OLQP for many years and was a past MC for the Knights of Columbus Foolish Follies.  He was a member of the Alton Eagles FOE 254, the NRA and Ducks Unlimited, in which he spent some years on the board.  He enjoyed visiting the Alton Belle. He also enjoyed shooting trap and skeet.  He loved to fish and hunt turkey, rabbit and squirrel, but duck and goose hunting were his real passion. Larry never met a stranger and always had a joke to tell.

He is survived by his children and their spouses, Kim and Larry Brunstein of Edwardsville, IL, Jeff Ray and Dottie Davis of Cowden, IL, Kara and Dave Hagen of Meppen, IL and Heather and Brad Middendorf of Waterloo, IL; a special friend of many years, Pauline Nolan; nine grandchildren, Shane, Kristin, Shannon, Brandon, Emma, Ryan, Erica, Reese and Madison; one great granddaughter, Charleigh; a sister, Sandy Kremke of Bethalto; his former wife, Sandy Bextermueller Ray of Belleville and his faithful hunting dog, Buddy.

He was preceded in death by his parents.   

Services will be private.

Memorials can be made to Shriners Children’s Hospital.
