Joyce Ann Buzzanga, age 67 of Brighton died at 6:00 pm on Wednesday at her home surrounded by her children, after a long hard fought, 12 year battle with ovarian cancer. Joyce was born April 16, 1948 in Alton and was a 1966 graduate of Alton High School. She married Thomas J Buzzanga in Godfrey on August 9, 1991 and he preceded her in death on August 3, 2000. She worked at both Clark Oil Refinery and St. Anthony’s Hospital, retiring from both. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, scrapbooking, reading books, lunch dates with friends and going to the movies. Joyce was a member of the Mississippi Valley Garden Club, The Red Hat Ladies and The Brighton Library Sewing Club. But most of all she enjoyed spending time with her kids, grandkids and her cats. Surviving are her four children; Jeff Cox (kim) of St. Charles, MO, Juanita Cox and her companion, Monte of Jerseyville, Melissa McKee (Chris) of Brighton, Jon Cox (Rachel) of Brighton, grandchildren; Emma, Kaylee, Alex and Landen, two step-daughters; Vicky Buzzanga and Mary Brandon, a sister; Judy Fritz and her companion Mike and her nieces and nephews. In addition to her father; Charlie Griggs and her husband, she was also preceded in death by a son; William “Bill” Cox on September 29, 1996 and a brother; Brian Griggs. Visitation will be from 2:00 – 6:00 pm on Sunday at Gent Funeral Home in Alton where funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Monday with Rev. Sonny Renken officiating. Burial will be in Brighton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the 5A’s animal shelter in Alton or the Riverbend Animal Shelter in Jerseyville.
