Mildred Maguire

Alton |

Mildred Lucille Maguire, 93, died at 2:12 p.m. Thursday, October 8, 2015 at Eunice Smith Nursing Home in Alton. She was born in Morean Township, Morgan County, Missouri on December 20, 1921. The daughter of the late Wiley and Myrlie (Wilson) Busker. She married Ralph Lloyd Maguire in St. Charles, MO on November 13, 1939 and enjoyed 57 ½ happy years together. He preceded her in death on May 18, 1997. She was a loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother. A homemaker and volunteer to her church and her children’s schools. She enjoyed working with the Girl Scouts for several years. She loved all of nature, the mountains, the sunrises, sunset and was thrilled at seeing rainbows. Loved the changing season, flowers, birds and keeping a well-kept yard. Loved to travel and with her husband traveled to all 50 states, Canada and Europe. Her hobby was genealogy and working on the computer. As her mother died when she was five and her father went into construction work and moved a lot, she was in a lot of homes and seemed each had an elderly mother, which became her grandmother. So although both of her grandmothers died before she was born she had lots of grandmothers. She always enjoyed the elderly and listening to their stories of their past years. She was a devoted member of Elm Street Presbyterian Church for 56 years, serving as an elder and working on various projects. Survivors are a very dear son and daughter-in-law, Roy and Cathie Maguire of Edelstein, IL, grandchildren and their spouses, Marcus and Heather Maguire of Princeville, Megan and Chris Horan of Peoria, Derek and Sarah Dunnagan of Atlanta, GA, and Darci Dunnagan of Chicago, and a great grandchild, Dakoda Maguire of Princeville.
