James Edward Vonderheidt, Sr., 71, passed away Wednesday, October 8, 2015 at Jefferson Barracks Medical Facility in St. Louis.
He was born Jan. 29, 1944 in St. Louis, MO to Talford and Ilah (Wood) Vonderheidt. James worked as a Machinist for over 40 years and an Insulator for over 10 years. He married Sharon J. Johnson May 3, 1969; she preceded him in death March 3, 2015. James served his country in Vietnam from 1968-1972 in the Army. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart.
He is survived by his son, James Vonderheidt, Jr. and his wife Paula of East Alton; grandson, Brandon Vonderheidt of Wood River; brother, Jerome “Jerry” and Maurine Vonderheidt of Brighton and three sisters, Sally and Rick Luker of Cypress, TX, Mary Vonderheidt of Cypress TX and Dorothy and Clifford Link of Alton.
A memorial visitation will be held from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, October 10, 2015 at Paynic Home for Funerals in Rosewood Heights where services will be held at 3 p.m. Memorials can be made to the National Pancreatic Cancer Foundation.
