Kenneth Vieregge

Kenneth Leon Vieregge, 89, passed away at 8:54 p.m. Monday, October 5, 2015 at Alton Memorial Hospital.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Nova (Donnelson) Vieregge; his wife, Pearl B. (Sever) Vieregge; brothers Donald and Robert Vieregge; and his sister, Doris Holloway.

Survivors include his brother, Eldon E. Vieregge and several nieces and nephews.

Kenneth was in the U.S. Army and served during World War II and the Korean Conflict.  He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for meritorious achievement in ground operations against the enemy in the European Theater of Operations.  He served in some of the same areas as his father, Louis served during World War I, including the Argonne Forest and the Rhine River areas in Germany.

He worked for Helmkamp Construction as a truck driver for 15 years and also worked for Stolze Lumber for 27 years.

A funeral procession will leave Paynic Home for Funerals Friday, Oct. 9 at 1 p.m. to arrive at Wanda Cemetery in South Roxana, where he will be laid to rest next to his wife with military honors.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
