Raymond “Sonny” E. Cotton, Jr

Raymond “Sonny” E. Cotton, Jr., 71, passed away at 11:05 pm Sunday, October 4, 2015 at his home. 

He was born in Alton, Illinois on August 18, 1944, the son of Raymond E. and Anne B. (Copeland) Cotton Sr.

He married Carol A. Lowe on March 21, 1995 in Kentucky.  She survives. 

Sonny was a pipefitter/welder for Texas Local 211 for 50 years, until his retirement.  He was also a Adjunct Professor at Lewis and Clark College.  He was a member of the Shriner’s in Texas.  He was also a Mason in Texas.  He was on the East Alton Wood River State Championship baseball team against Ciscero. He enjoyed teaching, telling funny stories, Chrissy’s peach cobbler and most of all spending time with his family and friends.   

Sonny was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be missed by his wife, his children, Lisa Trice, Raquel Siemer and John Gilbert; two grandchildren, Randi Siermer and Gerald Pantoja; his brothers and sisters, Clarice Sibley, Johnny Hooper, Gary Ledford, Brenda Locke and Ronnie Cotton and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Starla McKinney.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm Friday, October 9, 2015 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto.

Funeral services will be at 11 am Saturday, October 10, 2015 at the funeral home with Pastor Terry McKinzie officiating.

Burial will follow at Brighton City Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
