Violet Tanner

Violet M. Tanner, 95, passed away at 8:55 am, September 29, 2015 at Alton Nursing & Rehab.

She was born in St. Louis on December 15, 1919 the daughter of the late Frank and Lena Mae (Schneider) Gaither.

On February 21, 1947, she married Hubert Tanner.

She was a homemaker who loved taking care of her children and grand children while always being there for everyone.  She enjoyed flowers and bird watching.  She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church until combined with St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

She is survived by one son James Tanner of Alton; three daughters Nancy Cox of Alton, Susan (Richard) Derleth of Highland and Janie (David) McCann of Fosterburg; sixteen grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Hubert; two sons Raymond and Richard Lowe; one sister Sophie Gaither; two brothers Elmer and George Gaither.

In celebration of her life, visitation will be from 3 pm to 7 pm Sunday October 4, 2015 at Staten-Fine Funeral Home in Alton, IL.

Funeral service will be at 7 pm Sunday October 4, 2015 at Staten-Fine Funeral Home. 

Burial will follow at Upper Alton Cemetery at a later date.

Memorials may be directed to Alton Nursing & Rehab’s Activity Fund.
