Gladys V. Fisher, 96, died at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 29, 2015 at V.I.P. Manor in Wood River. Born January 11, 1919 in Eldred, IL, she was the daughter of Simon “Peter” and Mattie (Scoggins) Shaw. Mrs. Fisher was a member of Cherry Street Baptist Church for 50 years and then became a member of Godfrey Baptist Church. She was a member of the Eastern Star and a Noble Grand of the Carlin-Rebekah Lodge. On March 16, 1942 she married Gilbert “Gib” H. Fisher in St. Charles, MO. He preceded her in death on August 13, 1996. Surviving is a daughter and son-in-law Barbara and Ray Williams of Alton, two sons and daughters-in-law Larry and Marilyn Fisher of Godfrey and Gary and Juanita Fisher of Belleville. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. Along with her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a son, Richard “Dick” Fisher, seven brothers, Garrett, Alvin, Truman, Everett, Thomas, Leroy and Clarence Shaw, and two sisters, Lena Mitchell and Zelma Grady. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, October 2, 2015 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton where funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 3, 2015. Dr. Glen Greenwood will officiate. Burial will be at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey. Memorials may be made to the National Parkinson Foundation or the American Cancer Society.
