Thomas Eugene “Hoop” Hooper Jr

Thomas Eugene “Hoop” Hooper Jr., 69, died at 10:04 a.m. Monday, September 28, 2015 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO. Born December 25, 1945 in Alton, he was the son of Thomas E. Hooper Sr. and Mary Francis (Swift) Hooper. He graduated from Alton High School in 1965 and was drafted into the Army where he proudly served his county from 1965-1967. After 25 years he retired from Shell Oil Company as a sheet metal worker. Hoop was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 1308 and also a member of the Alton Eagles, ABATE Piasa Godfrey Chapter, Alton Masonic Lodge, Shriners International, and a sustaining member of Motorcycle Rider Foundation. Surviving is a daughter Tawnya R. Hooper of Alton, a son, Thomas E. Hooper III of Alton, three grandchildren; Reid Murray of Alton, Kathryn Woolsey of East Alton, and Tabitha Hooper of Kansas City, MO. Also surviving is a sister, Karen Braatz of O’Fallon, IL, nieces, Lauren Mcelhaney and her family of St. Albans, MO and Megan Pant and her family of Ellicott City, Maryland and the mother of his children Sharon L. Hooper. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 30, 2015 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton and continue from 10:00 a.m. until time of funeral services at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 1, 2015 at Gent Funeral Home. Reverend Jack Hyden will officiate. Burial will be at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey with full military honors by the VFW Post 1308. A portion of his remains will be buried at the Punch Bowl in Hawaii. Memorials may be made to the VFW Post 1308.
