Danny Lewis

Godfrey |

Danny Lee Lewis, 65, went to be with the Lord at 11:30 a.m., August 23, 2015, at
Alton Memorial Hospital with his family by his side.

He was born Sept. 13, 1949 in Rock Island, Ill. He was the son of the late Charles, Sr. and Marilyn Joanne (Etzel) Wiley.

He attended Alton High School.  In 1968, he enlisted in The United States Army.  He served proudly in Vietnam from 1968-69.  After that, he did a tour in Korea and was also a wheel mechanic in Ft. Polk, LA in 1970.  He was also a 591 ST M.P. Co in Ft. Bliss, Tex. from 1972-75.  He was honorably discharged from the Army as a SSG E6 in 1975.

He was a graduate from LCCC in 1977 with an Assoc. degree in Criminal Justice.

He worked for Laclede Steel in Alton from 1977 to 1980, where he met his current wife and best friend, Kathy (Widman) Lewis of Godfrey. They were married July 7, 1979.  She survives.

He was proud to work as a Security Guard for the Las Vegas Hilton in 1981.  He worked for Olin Corp. for many years, retiring in 1999 due to an injury.  Since his retirement, he dealt with and overcame many health issues, being an inspiration to family and friends.  He loved racing and watching NHRA. He loved going to car shows and sharing his knowledge of cars with his kids. He was also a huge Dallas Cowboy fan. And if anyone ever brought up politics, that sure sparked a heated debate.  He loved anything to do with his "Girls". His true happiness and
pride was his grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Danielle Lewis and Melissa (Scott) Antoine all of Godfrey; 2 grandchildren, Dan (Cheyenne) Brickner and Ruthie Antoine; a great granddaughter Bella Stamper; and his siblings, Charles Wiley, Jr. of Alton, David E. Wiley of Jerseyville, Vicky L. Ehlers of Brighton, and John Wiley of Alton.

Memorial visitation will be Friday, Aug 28 at Paynic Home for Funerals from 3 p.m. until services begin at 4 p.m.  Terry McKinzie will officiate.

Memorials may be made to the family in care of the funeral home.
