Mildred Ann (Dodd) Ballard went to join her husband, Robert “R.T.” Ballard, her parents, M.A. and Dana Dodd, her sister, Nave Higgenbotham, her brother Earl Dodd, grandson, Kyle Trimm and great grandson, Mikyle Trimm on August 1, 2015. She died at home with her family by her side.
Mom was born on July 10, 1929 in Moro, Illinois. She and dad were married in Moro on June 28, 1948. They celebrated 56 years of marriage before he passed October 1, 2004.
She was a wonderful mother to three daughters and sons-in-law, Tara and George Nelson of Marsielles, IL, Pam and Jerry Gordon of Alton, and Karen and Mike Trimm of Bethalto.
She was granny to Gregory and Amy Nelson, Bryan and Tiffany Nelson, Jason Gordon and his fiancé, Colleen Williams, Jerrod Gordon, Jacob and Catherine Gordon, Jenna and Alex Honke, Michele Allshouse and Jennifer Trimm and great grandchildren, Gabrielle Nelson, Bryce and Blake Nelson, Christian Gordon, Clayton Monroe, Jacob Gordon, Anna and Allyssa Brown, Greta Gordon and Chloe and Baylee Allshouse. She is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Ralph and Jean Dodd of Houston, TX and a sister Janet and Edison Fowler of Pensacola, FL; brother-in-law, Clifford Ballard and brother and sister-in-law, Lloyd and Pat Ballard and many loved nieces and nephews and dear and cherished friends..
Mildred worked for 10 years at Alton Memorial Hospital as a LPN until she retired and she and dad moved to the Lazy Acres area of Bull Shoals Lake in Arkansas, where she continued with her medical training by being a volunteer First Responder for that area. She was blessed to live there for 25 years and great times fishing, swimming, gardening and playing cards with the gals on the hill. They moved to Rosewood Heights in 2002 to be closer to their family.
She was an active member of the St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Rosewood Heights and enjoyed singing with the Sweet Sounds Group who entertained at nursing homes.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm Wednesday, August 5, 2015 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Thursday, August 6, 2015 at the funeral home with Pastor Daryl Fansler officiating.
Interment will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
