Wood River—William Robert DeGerlia, 87, passed away at 4:50 p.m. Friday, July 31, 2015 at Bethalto Care Center.
Born Oct. 22, 1927 in Alton, he was a son of Thomas S. and Gertrude L. (Pelot) DeGerlia.
He married Normagene White Oct. 29, 1950 in Alton. She survives.
Bob was a firefighter for the City of Alton for 20 years. He loved fishing and also took several trips around the U.S. with his wife after they retired. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and his great grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Roger William DeGerlia and Becky Lynn (Jeff) Gray, all of Wood River; grandchildren Grace (Steve) Rymer of St. Charles, Mo., Joseph (Sherry) Clary of East Alton and Michael Gray of Wood River; 9 great grandchildren, Jeffery, Olivia, Gage, Jordan, Casey, Nicholas, Zac, Haileigh and Zoie; a great-great grandson, Liam; and all of his favorite nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 sisters and their husbands, Evelyn (Warren) Vance and Ruth (Harry) Allen; and a brother and his wife, Thomas (Orlean) DeGerlia.
According to his wishes, there will be no services.
