Mary O’Donnell

Mary E. O’Donnell, age 95, of Godfrey, passed away Monday, May 4, 2015, at Provision Living in Godfrey.She was born August 21, 1919, in Hardin, the daughter of Thomas X. and Dorothea (Godar) O’Donnell. She had attended Grafton grade schools and was one of the oldest graduates of Marquette Ursuline Academy. She then graduated from SIU Carbondale and received a Master’s Degree from St. Louis University. She became a teacher, and eventually, the Superintendent of Schools during her forty years working for the US Air Force in Japan and Europe.She is survived by four nieces, Katheleen Atkinson of Foley, AL, Judith Zimmer of Chicago, Cynthia Tranquilli of Fort Worth, TX, and Margaret (O”Donnell) Carrow and husband, Martin Carrow, of Godfrey; and a nephew, Thomas P. O’Donnell of Grafton; and her special friend, Rianna, her pet poodle and faithful companion for seven years.She is preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Thomas O’Donnell.Visitation will be held Saturday, May 9, 2015, from 9:00 am until the time of Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey with Fr.
