Evelyn Virginia Clark, 87, died at 11:50 a.m. Saturday, May 2, 2015 at her home in Godfrey. Born November 24, 1927 in Franklin, IL, she was the daughter of Truman L. and Ruth (Ebrey) Oxley. Evelyn worked at Boyd’s Sandwich Shop in Upper Alton and was a co-owner of Allied Marine until she retired in 1972. She also worked at Lewis & Clark Community College Library and as a receptionist at the Salvation Army. She loved to take drives up the River Road to look at the eagles. Evelyn taught Sunday school at North Alton Southern Baptist Church and then later at Edwards Street Assembly of God Church and was currently a member of Cornerstone Church in Godfrey. Surviving from her marriage to George Young is a daughter, Barbara Ellen Young Singer of Boca Raton, FL, a granddaughter, Mary Elizabeth Young, a sister, Marilyn Nolan of Jacksonville, IL, a sister-in-law, Mary Oxley of Woodson, IL, a dear friend, Rodney Rodenhauser and her beloved cat Cinny Bun. Along with her parents she was preceded in death by a brother John Robert Oxley. Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at Cornerstone Church in Godfrey where funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 6, 2015. Reverend Jim Kiel will officiate. Burial will be at Upper Alton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Evelyn Clark memorial fund at Cornerstone Church. Gent Funeral Home in Alton is in charge of arrangements.
