James Lee Churchich, 83, died at 1:48 p.m. on Thursday, April 30, 2015 at John Cochran Medical Center in St. Louis, MO. He was born November 12, 1931 in Alton the son of the late Nick and Helen (Dugan) Churchich. He served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. He ultimately became a Sergeant, but Private First Class Churchich received a Purple Heart and a Silver Star Medal boldly leading his team on a daring patrol raid into the enemy’s defensive line in order to knock out a strategic hostile position. He retired in 1992 after 50 years of service as a printer with the Alton Telegraph. On June 15, 1963 in Alton he married Doris June (Robbins) and she survives. Also surviving are two daughters and one son; Kelley Schultz (Dan) of Alton, Briana Davis (Barney) of Worden and Nick Churchich of Alton, seven grandchildren; Justin Nasello, Jason Nasello, Connor Churchich, Collin Churchich, Danielle Churchich, Madison Schultz and Brenna Davis. He was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Churchich. Services will be private. Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, DC.
