Wanda Syddall

Wanda  M. Syddall, 85, passed away Wednesday April 29, 2015 with her daughter and grand-daughter by her side.

She was born May 11, 1929, in Gillespie, the daughter of Irwin and Ruth (Dillard) Smith. She married William Dell Syddall and he preceded her in death.

Wanda had worked at St. Mary’s Catholic Church as a cook for several years. She was a member of The Legion of Mary. She loved to bake, sew, and make home-made candies.

She is survived by a daughter, Gayle Syddall of Alton; six siblings, Harold Smith, Irwin Smith, Helen Siewers, Ruth Miller, Gerald Smith, and Ralph Smith, all of the Gillespie area; a grand-daughter, Angel Syddall of Wood River; and many other friends and relatives.

In addition to her husband, William; she is preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Everett and Richard Smith.

Visitation will be held Sunday, May 3, 2015, from 4 to 8 pm, at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, May 4, 2015 at 10:00 am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton with Fr. John Wykes OMV, officiating.

Burial will take place in Upper Alton Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or to the ASPCA.

Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton is in charge of arrangements.
