Thomas Dossey

Wood River |

At 4:20 a.m. on Tuesday, April 21, 2015, Thomas Truman “Tom” Dossey, 83, finished his race here on earth and joined the angels in Heaven, receiving his final reward.

Born Feb. 17, 1932 in Aruba, Netherlands in the West Indies, he was the son of Truman and Esther (Whyers) Dossey.

He married Patsy L. Blevens June 7, 1953 in Piggot, Ark.  She survives.

A U.S. Air Force veteran, Tom worked for ConAgra Mill as a smutter for 12 years.  He loved the Lord and church.  He also loved travelling and computer games, as well as spending time with his kids, grandkids, great grandkids, and especially his wife of 61 years.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Susan (Rev. John) Lile of Wood River; a son, Michael Dossey of Groves, Tex.; 5 grandchildren, Jeremy, Amanda, Shannon, Paul, and Brandy; 8 great grandchildren; and a sister, Alta Keefe of Wood River.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Pauline Lawless; and an infant brother.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday, Apr. 23 at Paynic Home for Funerals, where Rev. Michael Mayberry will officiate services at 11 a.m. Friday, Apr. 24.

Burial will follow at Ingersoll Cemetery in Alton, with military honors by Alton VFW Post #1308.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
