Robert Lee “Bob” Winchell Sr

 Robert Lee “Bob” Winchell Sr.,  69, died at 6:04 p.m., Thursday, February 26, 2015 at the John Cochran VA Hospital in St. Louis, MO.

He was born on February 20, 1946 in Alton and grew up in the Fieldon and Nutwood area where he was devotedly raised by his grandparents Howard and Ethel Winchell.

Bob attended Jerseyville schools and later went on the serve our country honorably with the United States Army in Vietnam from 1967 to 1968.

He was employed  at Eastern Pipelines as a Welder in Stuart, FL for the majority of his adult life before his health required him to retire in 2000 when he returned to the Fieldon area.

He married the former Patricia Wieneke on January 6, 2003 in Jerseyville and together they recently celebrated their 12th wedding anniversary.

Bob was a proud and true outdoorsman.  Every conversation with him would eventually lead to him telling stories about hunting, fishing, mushrooming and gardening or his enthusiasm for finding the perfect item at a local auction.

Surviving are his wife, Patricia Winchell of Fieldon; eight children and their spouses, Robert Lee Winchell Jr. of Medora; Tammy Coughlin of Jerseyville; Jamie and John Weaver of Brighton; Traci Kraushaar of Brighton; Michelle and Marty Mathis of Shipman; Keith and Jill Bregenzer of Jerseyville; Kristan and Curtis Schollomeyer of Delhi; and Tammy and Bill Buhman of Walcott, Iowa; 17 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren with 3 more on the way; along with his cholocate, black and silver labs, Shep, Bear and Boomer.

He was preceded in death by a son, Brian Winchell; three grandchildren, Logan Mathis, Brandon Schollomeyer and Lieghanne Bregenzer; his mother, Mary Tant; and his grandparents, Howard and Ethel Winchell.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of funeral services at 1 p.m., Tuesday, March 3 at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.

Burial will take place at the Fieldon Cemetery in Fieldon with full military honors conducted by the Jerseyville American Legion Post 492 Color Guard.

In honor of his love for animals, Memorials may be given to Hope Animal Rescues in Godfrey in care of the funeral home.

Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville is in charge of arrangements.
