Rodney L. Mathews, 61, passed away at 9:55 am, on Wednesday February 25, 2015 at his residence.
He was born in Alton, IL on March 23, 1953 the son of the late Riley and Ida A. (Fry) Mathews.
Rodney married Rebecca J. Lawton on November 27, 1970 in Alton, IL. She survives.
Rodney served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the VFW Post 1308 of Alton, IL; he was an avid collector of vintage cars.
He is survived by his spouse, and two children; Rodney W. Mathews of Alton and Tonya Mathews of Alton, three grandchildren; Karlie Matthews, Cody Mugge and Brandon Mugge, two great grandchildren’ Christopher Robert Clark and Olivia Michelle Clark, three sisters; Geraldine Trimm of Brighton, Sharon Cox and her spouse Jerry of Alton, IL, Rosetta Jane Stone of Granberry, TX and one brother; Riley Daniel Mathews and his spouse Gloria.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son; Jason Mathews, four sisters; Donna Ellis, Joan Mathews, Rita Mathews and Frita Mathews.
Visitation will be from 9:30 am to till time of service at 11:30 am, Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at the Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton.
Burial will be at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO.
Memorials may be directed to American Diabetes Association or the American Cancer Association.
