S. Russell “Pop” Harris 86, passed away at 10:35 pm, Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at the Bethalto Care Center in Bethalto.
He was born in Foster Township on April 17, 1928, the son of the late Samuel M. & Julia (Boiellet) Harris. He was formerly married to Juanita Brooks.
Russell was a farmer all his life. He was a member of Fosterburg Baptist Church where he served as a Trustee and Deacon. He loved sawing lumber and then building houses out of the lumber. He loved traveling, Indian Motor Cycles, hand held radio’s and taking care of his cows on his farm.
He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Melvin & Sue Harris and Jerry & Margaret Harris both of Bethalto; five grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Thomas “Bud” Harris and Everett “Pete” Harris and three sisters, Ruby A. Harris, Evelyn “Ebbie” Krieg and Marjorie J. Wempen.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm on Friday, February 27, 2015 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton.
Visitation will continue from 10 am until time of service at 11 am, Saturday, February 28, 2015 at the Fosterburg Baptist Church in Fosterburg, with Rev. Bob Harris officiating.
Burial will follow at Short Cemetery in Cottage Hills, IL.
