Ralph L. Johnson, age 89, passed away at 4:55 pm Monday, February 23, 2015 at the Bethalto Care Center. He was born on January 22, 1926 in Alton, IL, the son of the late William F. and Lucille (Tosh) Johnson. Ralph married Arlene (Coons) Johnson on December 25, 1949 in Alton, Il, she preceded him in death on August 8, 2006. Ralph served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and WWII, he was a self employed barber working behind the Bon Air, and the Village in Upper Alton. He was a former member of the Main Street Methodist Church in Alton, the Franklin Masonic Lodge # 25 in Alton and the VFW Post 1308. He enjoyed hunting, bowling, and playing cards especially pinochle. His greatest joy was spending time with family, friends and his puppy Tippy. He is survived by two children; Mary Rios and Sharon Fairchild and her spouse Bruce, ten grandchildren; Jason Mitchell, Christopher Nichols, Brian Mitchell, Todd Gregory, Cory Nichols, James Condon, Joshua Mitchell, Ryan Condon, Alexis Campbell and her spouse Mark, and Andrea Grizzle and her spouse Cary, ten great grandchildren; Stephanie, Taylor, Shari, Hayden, Rylee, Owen, Jacob, Joshua, Mark and Carter, and two sisters; Norma Glassbrenner of St. Louis, MO and Barbara Reardon of MO. He was preceded in death by his parents, spouse and son Gregory Johnson. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm, Thursday, February 26, 2015 at the Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton, IL. Masonic rites will be given by the Franklin Lodge # 25 at 6:00 pm. Funeral Service will be at 10 am on Friday, February 27, 2015 with Rev. Pastor Charles West officiating Burial will follow at the Upper Alton Cemetery in Alton, IL, with full military rites by the Alton VFW Post 1308. Memorials may be directed to American Cancer Society.
