Paul Myers

Paul Myers, 83, passed away at 8:07 pm on Friday, January 23, 2015 at Alton Memorial Hospital.

He was born on June 2, 1931, in St. Louis, MO, the son of the late Orville & Myrtle (Chadd) Myers.

He was married to Bessie M. (Eaker) on October 23, 1950 in Paragould, AR. She survives.

Paul served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was employed with Sears Roebuck & CO. in sales for over 30 years. He was a member of the Bethel General Baptist Church of Bethalto where he served as a youth pastor and Sunday school teacher in his younger days. Paul was also a member of the Knife Makers Guild and the Bunker Hill Knife Club where he served as a past president. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, making custom made knives, jewelry and pipes, fixing items around the house and spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife; two sons and daughters-in-law, Marty & Vicki Myers of Bethalto and Brad & Sherry Myers of Wood River; eight grand children and their spouses, Jeremy & Jessica Myers, Jared & Kristen Myers, Jason & Lindsay Myers, Courtney Myers, Ryan & Trisha Bertels, Kylie Bertels & Brandon Kirby, Angie Bailey & Mike Laurent and Allison Creekmore & Shawn Sayle; fourteen great grandchildren; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Irving & Wanda Myers of Dexter, MO, Donald E. & Vesta Myers of Bethalto and Bill & Charla Myers of Jackson, MO and one aunt, Agnes Corbin of Advance, MO.

He is preceded in death by his parents; one son, Kent Edwin Myers; one brother, Orville Myers and one sister, Laverne Eaker.

Visitation will be from 4 pm to 7 pm on Monday, January 26, 2015 at the Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto.

Funeral services will be at 10 am on Tuesday, January 27, 2015 at the funeral home with Pastor Jeremy Myers officiating.

Burial will at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto with full military rites being presented by the Alton VFW Post 1308 ritual team.

Memorials may be made out to the Wounded Warrior’s Project.
