The St. Louis Zoo wants to expand, but it needs more money first. The Zoo-Museum District board is discussing ways to raise funds for updating the zoo. One board member says they have three options, including raising tax rates, charging admission to five cultural institutions or try to add more counties to the area in the Zoo-Museum District.
Last week, the board announced a major expansion plan that would incorporate new property recently secured by the Zoo that is south of Interstate 64. The plans include a themed hotel, expanded exhibits, a gondola, and an underground parking garage. The plans, however, cover the next 20 to 30 years.
