The city of Grafton added to it's attractions this week, when the City Council approved a business license for a zipline to be constructed in the hills above town. It will be a first of it's kind attraction for the St. Louis area, and if all goes well with planning and construction, should be open by June 1 at the Aerie's Riverview Winery and Cottages.
Grafton Adventure's Zipline will be the name of the company, and will feature rides for passengers over hills and valleys starting from the area of the popular cottages and winery. A zipline is a series of cables that are suspended through an area where riders are harnessed and hooked onto the lines and then let gravity do the rest from the top to the bottom. The plan for Grafton Adventure's Zipline will include up to a 90-minute experience through 8 lines ranging in length from 300 feet to 2,000 feet. Speeds can reach up to 50 miles per hour depending on the course and the person, and the costs will range from $45 to $100 per ride. The business should bring about 15 new jobs, and city officials believe it will bring more new people to town.
