A program with a long tradition is making its way to Alton again for the Christmas season.  The local chapter of Wreaths Across America was set up eight years ago to decorate the graves of those buried at the Alton National Cemetery on Pearl Street, and the public is invited to attend the ceremony that will be held next month.

Alton resident Margaret Hopkins says fourth grade students from St. Mary’s School will assist veterans in decorating the more than 500 headstones.

The live 20-inch wreaths will remain up for about a month following the 11am ceremony on Saturday December 13.  A suggested $10 donation can be made to help offset the cost of the wreath and can be mailed to Alton Wreaths Across America at P.O. Box 181 Alton, IL, 62002.
