Another indication of progress in the redevelopment of the Defense Area in East Alton has been noted. Footings have been laid out on the first two homes that will be built, and concrete work on the streets has begun. That’s about all contractors have been able to do, however, as the weather this winter has not cooperated.
East Alton Mayor Fred Bright says this is a multi-phase project, but excitement is building amongst prospective homeowners.

Homes have been demolished, streets are being realigned, and the first of the new single-family houses and duplexes should be ready to move into sometime this summer, according to Bright. He says the home-ownership part of the plan is similar to a redevelopment that has been happening in parts of Alton. The development has been dubbed Emerald Ridge.
