The Belk Park Golf Course is Wood River will be getting an upgrade this spring, thanks to a PEP Grant it has received through Madison County Community Development. The grant is in the amount of $30,000, according to Park & Recreation Director Jason Woody, who says the money is being used to improve the driving range.
The golf course has seen its share of shake-ups in management over the past few months. The long-time golf pro was let go in February as a cost-saving measure. His replacement quit earlier this week after just a few weeks on the job. The city has now hired James Earle to fill the vacancy. He is expected to make about $40,000 per year.
