Athletes from around the Riverbend and beyond are getting ready for the 27th annual Wood River Triathlon coming up on Saturday, August 11. Starting at 7am, contestants will swim, bike, and run a course that runs through a residential section of town, beginning at the Wood River Aquatic Center.
The course is a 2-mile loop through town. Wood River Park & Recreation Superintendent Jason Woody says there are precautions being taken to deal with the heat that is expected to continue. He says keeping plenty of food and water on hand is very important to running a successful event.
The course will consist of 450 meters in the Olympic-sized pool, followed by 12 miles on bicycle and 4 miles of running. The event ends up at the Roundhouse at Central Park.
