Raising funds for the East Alton – Wood River Oiler’s Booster Club to pass on to the high school’s athletic department is the goal behind a proposed fun run and walk on June 21, but there are some concerns the city must address before giving it the green light. Among those are the closure of city streets to make for a safe course for participants, which city officials puts their citizens at the mercy of the time it takes to run the event.
A 5k would take around two hours, and Wood River City Manager Jim Schneider says blocking traffic for that long would not sit well with many residents. He hopes to find a way to please everyone.

The proposed course would be nearly the same as the one used during the triathlon. The booster club is trying to raise funds through a different method than trivia nights and mouse races, because as one organizer says, there are already plenty of them.
