The Wood River Police Department currently operates in a small area on the end of the municipal building that also houses the city manager, the clerk's office, and the city council chambers. The days of being crammed into a small space to perform an ever-expanding range of duties is about to come to an end, as a plan to expand the facility was shared with the City Council this week.
The plan will take the police department across the parking lot and across to Whitelaw Avenue, building on the north side of that city block. Architect Barry Moyer says police vehicles would have the ability to enter through the use of a Sally Port.
The new facility will include a basement that could be used for records and evidence storage, conference rooms, training rooms, or a host of other options.
