Whether or not Wood River residents will have another resource to get rid of their old, unwanted or out-of-date medicine is still being considered.  The Wood River Police Department is considering setting up a drop box for residents to turn in their prescription or over-the-counter medications.

Wood River Police Chief Otis Steward says they are still researching the various aspects of taking on that kind of responsibility.  He tells The Big Z prescription drug abuse and heroin seem to be equally prevalent in the city.

The department has hired a new officer.  Mike Young comes to Wood River from neighboring East Alton, and will apparently be bringing his dog with him.  Young is a canine handler, and East Alton has apparently offered to let Degan follow Young to his new job.  The offer also includes the donation of the kennels and other associated equipment.
