Twelve-year-old Daniel McVey of Wood River is being recognized as a hero of sorts for his role in getting a neighbor to safety last month. He was presented with a certificate of recognition at Monday night's Wood River City Council Meeting. Rose Thiemann had apparently left a burner on her gas stove on slightly, filling the house with gas. McVey says he opened her door and recognized the smell.

In other council business, the 2015-2016 tax levy was passed. The city will be levying just over $2.1-million. The slight increase over last year's levy is due to the police and fire pension funds.
