An area woman will have to repay at least some of the money she is alleged to have stolen from her employer over the last ten years. 76 year old Donna Sasek of Bethalto was ordered to repay $180,000 to Landmark Realty, although authorities believe the amount may have been closer to half a million dollars. Sasek pleaded guilty to theft over $100,000 earlier this month.
In addition to paying back the money, she will serve four years probation, but she is also facing civil suits from the company, and her former home in Wood River is facing foreclosure. Authorities say Sasek would write checks to herself and to agents from the company, forge the signatures and take the money for spending sprees. Prosecutors say she would then feel guilty and give everything to charity, but then repeat the crime. She did not have any known problem with gambling or drug addiction.
