A 27-year-old Swansea woman was struck and killed while walking along Interstate 55/70 near Maryville last night.  The Madison County Coroner’s office says Samantha S. Miller was traveling eastbound along the interstate when she had car problems.  She pulled onto the shoulder and then got out of the vehicle and was struck by a pickup truck.

The pickup then also struck her vehicle with her three children still inside.  The children, ages 3, 6 and 8, were treated at a local hospital, but their conditions are unknown.  The incident was first reported at 8pm, and Miller was pronounced dead at the scene an hour later.  The death remains under investigation by both the Coroner’s Office and the Illinois State police.
