Alton Police are investigating the death of a woman who apparently jumped from a grain silo in downtown Alton late Monday. The 40 year old from Alton was found dead near the south side of Ardent Mills, formerly ConAgra, just moments after a worker noticed her on top of the structure.
Alton Police report a truck driver saw a purse fall to the ground and looked up to see the woman and called his supervisor. As he did, police say the woman appeared to jump from the silo, about 185 feet, to the ground. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Police say it appears to be a suicide and found no evidence anyone was with her at the time. The Madison County Coroner is also investigating the incident which took place around 11:30pm Monday.
