Rescuers are expected to be back on the Mississippi River today searching for a woman who fell from the Golden Eagle Ferry late yesterday afternoon. The woman, said to be in her 60's, 5'5" tall and wearing a light-colored shirt, fell around 4:20pm Friday in what were described as calm waters. The search for her was suspended last night due to darkness.
While there are safeguards on the vessel to keep someone from falling over accidentally, law enforcement from Missouri says the woman intentionally went over the gate, but stresses that does not mean she was trying to take her own life. The U.S. Coast Guard, Missouri State Water Patrol, Illinois Conservation Police and Calhoun County Sheriff's Department are among the agencies involved in the search. The ferry has been closed until further notice due to the incident.
