Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker is scheduled to visit Springfield today. The Illinois Chamber of Commerce has asked walker to speak at its Business Lobby Day to discuss how he tackled his state’s fiscal crisis. But Governor Pat Quinn isn’t impressed with the choice of guest speaker.
Employee unions plan to protest at the event, given Walker’s signing of a law nixing the collective bargaining rights of many Wisconsin state workers. The Chamber's Executive Director Doug Whitley says controversy isn't the only reason he has Walker in mind. He says the governor has a solid reputation for successfully dealing with a fiscal crisis and pension troubles, and that's something officials in Illinois need to do better. Having angered many Democratic voters, Walker is now facing a recall election organized for this spring.
